'Masses of choice' in car insurance market

The car insurance market features "masses of choice" for consumers, according to the British Insurance Brokers' Association (BIBA).

Graeme Trudgill, the technical and corporate affairs executive of the body, has said that because of this, it is unlikely that people cannot afford cover for their vehicles.

He explained that many providers offer instalment plans and a variety of levels of cover, from third party products to "all-singing all-dancing" comprehensive policies.

"There is masses of choice out there. Instalment facilities are available and even short period policies, you can have whatever level of cover you wish," he said.

"Brokers can always offer an insurance solution for any motorist."

According to recent figures from MoneyExpert, around 350,000 motorists have admitted to driving uninsured within the last 12 months.

The same research also found that one per cent of those uninsured claim they cannot afford premiums, with those between 18 and 24 found to be the most likely to drive without cover.ADNFCR-1054-ID-18576597-ADNFCR
